Our Walvis Products Azimuth VTA Protractor is a simple tool to determine the correct vertical tracking angle of your stylus tip relative to the grooves of your record. In principle, that angle should be 90 degrees; the needle should move perpendicularly between the groove walls. With the azimuth set correctly, the needle tip makes equal contact on both sides of the groove of the gramophone record and the needle pressure is evenly distributed on both sides of the groove. This prevents unnecessary wear on your vinyl and your stylus.
A good azimuth setting has a positive influence on the channel balance, prevents distortion and thus greatly improves general sound quality.
